Auto messages
Post the same plain-text message in a channel on a fixed timer, such as a reminder to bump the server every 2 hours.
An automessage is a plain message plus a timer. The bot posts it in a channel each time the timer runs out. It doesn't read the channel, so it can't tell whether anyone did what the message asks.
Auto messages are Server Premium
,automessage (,am) is gated on Server Premium,
every subcommand included, and needs Manage Channels on top. The bot needs Send Messages in the
channel. Self Premium doesn't open it. See Premium tiers. It also
works as the slash command /automessage.
Post a message every few hours
,automessage add takes a channel, an interval and
the text. The first post comes one full interval after you run it, not straight away.
Syntax
,automessage add <channel> <interval> <message>
Example
,automessage add #general 2h Time to bump the server! Run /bump
Use a channel mention. A bare word matches the first channel with that fragment in its name.
Pick an interval
The interval is a whole number and one unit, with no spaces.
| Accepts | Refused |
|---|---|
61m, 90m, 2h, 24h, 167h, 1d, 6d | 1h and 60m (Time too short) |
Units s, m, h, d | 7d and 168h (Time too long) |
1.5h, 1h30m, 2 hours (Invalid Time) |
It must be more than 1 hour and less than 7 days, so 1h and 7d themselves are refused.
Change the text
,automessage edit swaps the text and keeps the
timer. The new text goes out on the next send.
Syntax
,automessage edit <channel> <message>
Example
,automessage edit #general Bump time! Run /bump and thank the last person who did
See what's running
,automessage list shows every channel and its
interval. It doesn't show the text.
Syntax
,automessage list
,automessage check shows one channel's saved
text and interval. It posts publicly in the channel you run it in, so run it in a staff channel.
Syntax
,automessage check <channel>
Example
,automessage check #general
Stop one or all
,automessage remove deletes the automessage
for one channel. ,automessage reset deletes
every automessage in the server.
Syntax
,automessage remove <channel>
Example
,automessage remove #general
Syntax
,automessage reset
`reset` has no confirmation and no undo
It wipes every automessage in the server at once. A removed automessage doesn't send again, even if its timer was about to fire.
What to expect
- Plain text only. Embed codes aren't read here.
{title: Hi}would post as those literal characters. For an embed, use sticky messages (also Server Premium), which re-post after a number of messages instead of on a clock. - Nobody gets pinged. The bot sends with mentions switched off, so
@everyone,@Memberand@Samin the text don't notify anyone. - Restarts don't lose it. If a send was due while the bot was offline, it goes out once when the bot is back, and the timer restarts from then.
- Deleting the channel deletes its automessages. Nothing is left behind to clear up.
- A channel can hold several.
adddoesn't stop you adding a second one to the same channel.check, editandremoveeach act on one of them and you can't choose which, so uselistto spot the extras, andremoveand re-add to tidy a channel with several.
Common issues
Server Premium Only. Every subcommand is gated, list and check included.
Invalid Time, Time too short or Time too long. See the interval table above. Write 2h, not 1h
or 2 hours.
Invalid Result. That channel has no automessage. list shows the channels that do.
Nothing posted yet. The first send is one full interval after add, not at once.
The timer runs but nothing appears. The bot can't post there: it needs View Channel and Send Messages in that channel. A failed send is skipped, and the timer keeps going, so it resumes once the permission is back.
