Terms of Service

Righteous is a Discord bot. Adding it to a server, or using any of its commands, means you agree to these terms and to Discord’s own Terms of Service (opens in a new tab) and Community Guidelines, which always apply on top of ours.

You must meet Discord’s own minimum age to use Righteous: currently 13, or higher where your local law requires it. If you’re adding the bot to a server, you’re confirming you have the authority to do that on the server’s behalf.

You agree not to use Righteous to:

• Violate Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, or help anyone else do so.
• Evade a ban, mute, or other moderation action, in a server Righteous protects or anywhere else.
• Abuse, overload, or interfere with the bot’s own operation or the third-party services it relies on.
• Attempt to access another user’s or server’s data through the bot without authorization.

Some commands can grant a role access to a Righteous command without granting the matching real Discord permission (a “fakepermission”). That’s a configuration feature for server admins, described further in the docs, and using it as intended doesn’t violate these terms. Using it, or any other feature, to do something this section already prohibits does.

Righteous only operates in a server that currently holds an entitlement: what the bot calls being “whitelisted.” That entitlement can be granted for free (a promo, a trial, or grandfathered access from before the current system) or through an active purchase (see Section 4).

If a server’s entitlement lapses (a trial ends, a subscription is cancelled), Righteous leaves that server. That’s not a punishment for anything the server did. It means the server doesn’t currently hold an entitlement, the same way any subscription product stops working once a subscription ends. Re-adding the bot or renewing access restores it.

We reserve the right to refuse or withdraw Righteous from any server, for any reason, at our discretion, including a server whose use of the bot violates Section 2.

Premium is bought self-serve with ,donate in the support server, which opens a Stripe Checkout session tied to your Discord account. Stripe is the merchant of record for that transaction under its Managed Payments program: Stripe issues the receipt, collects any applicable tax, and its own terms and dispute process govern the payment itself.

The same command sells two different things, and it is worth keeping them apart: Premium (Self or Server) buys perks for a member or a guild, while a Bot Purchase buys the thing described in Section 3 — getting Righteous into a server and keeping it there — and unlocks no perks at all. These terms cover both. /premium sets out the difference.

Our terms cover the other half of a purchase: what it gets you inside Righteous, which tier, what it unlocks, and when it starts and stops. See /premium for what each tier includes and /refund-policy for what happens if a purchase needs to be reversed. Managing an active subscription (updating a card, viewing invoices, cancelling) happens through Stripe’s own Billing Portal, linked from the same ,donate card.

Server Premium follows the server. It’s tied to the guild itself, not to any one member, so it stays in place through an ownership change or membership turnover with nothing for anyone to do.

Self Premium follows the person who bought it. It doesn’t transfer to a server or to anyone else. It stays with the purchasing member’s own Discord account wherever they go.

We may update these terms as Righteous changes. Continuing to use the bot after a change is posted means you accept the updated terms. We’ll keep the date at the top of this page current when that happens.

Righteous is provided as-is. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we’re not liable for losses arising from the bot being unavailable, misconfigured, or behaving unexpectedly, to the extent the law allows us to disclaim that.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Righteous is limited to whatever you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100 if you haven’t paid us anything.

That cap doesn’t cover gross negligence, fraud, or intentional misconduct — Texas law doesn’t let a clause like this limit liability for those. It also doesn’t waive any right under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act that this kind of clause isn’t allowed to waive.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute not resolved informally under Section 12 will be brought in the state or federal courts of Texas, and you agree to personal jurisdiction there.

If your own violation of these terms, your misuse of the bot, or content you submit through it brings a claim against us from someone else, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and damages from that claim — for example, a copyright claim over an embed code you created. This doesn’t cover a claim arising from something we did.

If you believe content accessible through Righteous infringes your copyright, send a notice to righteouscord@gmail.com with the following, which 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) requires for a takedown notice to be valid:

• Your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or someone authorised to act for them.
• Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed.
• Identification of the material you claim is infringing, and where it is.
• Your contact information.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you’re authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf and that the information above is accurate.

We’ll review a notice that includes all of the above and remove or disable access to the reported material where it’s warranted, and we’ll do the same for a user we find to be a repeat infringer.

Before filing a claim against us, contact us at righteouscord@gmail.com — or in the support server, if that’s easier — and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Most disagreements get sorted out that way faster than a court ever could, and we’d rather fix a real problem than litigate one.

Self Premium and Server Premium subscriptions, and a monthly Bot Purchase, all renew automatically at the price and interval you signed up for until you cancel. Prices are in US dollars. See /refund-policy for exactly how that works, what you’re charged, and how to cancel.

Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. We’ll read the unenforceable part narrowly enough to make it work if that’s possible, or drop it if it isn’t.

Entire agreement. These terms, together with /premium and /refund-policy, are the entire agreement between us about Righteous, and replace anything discussed before them.

Assignment. We can transfer our rights and obligations under these terms if Righteous or its ownership changes hands. You can’t transfer yours.
